Centreing is one of the fundamentals of Pilates and is often referred to as setting your centre. It is needed in every Pilates exercise you do to gain maximum benefit and will allow controlled and fluid movements together with lowering the risk of any injury.

It is more than just squeezing in the at the tummy which I guess we have all heard our Pilates teachers say but it is so much more than this. It is referring to the correct level of use of your abdominals and several other body parts supporting from your mid and lower area, pelvic floor, inner thighs and your glutes.

Breathwork is also a key part of centreing as it will help your body stabilize itself during the exercises but during exhalation, it is particularly important to have centred the body as when you relax your diaphragm it destabilizes our bodies. This is where it becomes super important to have activated the control in our centre to ensure effective support and also ensures our alignment remains correct.

Practice strengthening your core and your mat exercises will become effortless and oh so much more effective!

Enjoy and hope to see you in class soon
